Question

93 Accord...slugish

Sent to Car Experts August 09, 2005 11:35 a.m.

Yeah, I know your fist answer will be that it's old but it has never been a problem before

I had a timing belt and water pump replaced in a 93 Honda Accord. Now my car is sluggish. It seems as if it has lost some power. In addition it shakes more than it ever did in the past (especially in first and second gears-automatic) The repairman siad that my car would be sluggish due to the installation of the new timing belt. In the past when intalling a new timing belt I did not have this problem. The car was not this sluggish and shaky before I left it with the machanic.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

The mechanic has your engine out of valve time from putting the belt on wrong. It is a classic symptom of being off one tooth low power and stumbling or shaking.I would tell him to make sure it's on correctly and if he says it is tell him you are going to have someone else check it and if it's out of valve time you want your labor refunded for what he charged you.I have seen this problem so many times it makes me sick. Most people try to adjust the distributor to cover up their mistake but that will not help valve timing the distributor only affects ignition timing. If this answer helped you please click on my accept button.I would like to add I've put my fair share of timing belts and water pumps on Honda engines and never had that problem because I put the belt on correctly.
