VW Jetta won't start

I have a 2000 vw Jetta Glx VR-6. Sometimes when I go to start my car after it has been running a while it won't start. The ignition is working but the engine won't roll over. It doesn't happen all the time but when it does I have to wait about 30 mintutes to get it to start. Lately gasoline is going into the exhaust system when I try to start it repeatedly because it is flooding out and the engine performance is poor. The check engine light has been on ever since this (it not starting on the first try)has happened. It has been to the garage seven times now and I don't think they have a clue what they are doing. I called the volkswagon dealership and they seem to think it might be the heat sensor. I was wondering what you think?

The temp sensor can cause this. If faulty it can cause the PCM to richen the mixture thinking it is a cold start. Ohm it out with a DVM. when cold it should be very high resistance. As the engine warms it should drop to a few hundred ohms.

Typical
Ford
77F 29,000 ohms
248F 1,200 ohms

GM
70F 3,400 ohms
210F 185 ohms

Hope this helps
