Traffic accident

My son was in a car accident in January. He was in the wrong and had no insurance. DHSMV mailed a letter in refer to the accident. This letter stated they need his help in resolving traffic crash and the amount is $350.00. One hundred dollar to the driver and two-fifty to the company. However the owner keep calling saying she need and additional $750. They were able to drive away from the accident, but the owner says the transmission jammed, about two or three weeks later. Can they make him pay more?
