Question

If this is not a transmission problem, then what could it be

Sent to Car Experts June 27, 2005 5:28 p.m.

I own a 2000 Chevy Blazer. Sometimes when my car is idling at a stop light or stop sign, a shifting sound occurs as the car accelerates past 1000 rpm. I took the car into the dealership to have it examined, and they claim that it is not the transmission, but I opted out of allowing them to examine the car further until I know any other alternative explanations for this problem. Every since I took my car in for a tune-up at 100,000 miles, and the car is at 101,000, I have heard this shifting sound while accelerating past 1000 rpm and the car does not accelerate as fast as it used to. Additionally, the car seems more sluggish while driving it than before. Please provide some alternatives.

sounds to me like they dont know what they are doing. just a guess here is all, but sounds like your torque converter swith may be giving you a fit. i suggest taking it to someone other than the dealer to have a look at it

What else could be occurring if it is not the torque converter swith, and about how much should I expect to pay for a problem with the torque converter?

Neither the check engine light, nor any problems with the dash, speedometer, or gas gauge are seen.

Where does the shifting sound seem like its coming from? When you say it happens at idle are you holding the gas pedal so it idles at 1000 rpm?Because it shouldn't idle that fast. What all did the tune up consist of please be as specific as possible.
