After Battery charge, engine starts fully - then stops

After charging a dead battery over night I was able to start the car but it
would stop immediately as I let up on the foot pedal - as if there was no
idle - which wasn't a problem before the battery died. Also the battery
maintained its new charge at 12.85, so I'm not sure why the enginge dies
when I release the gas pedal.
