I have a 95 Mustang GT with a 5.0L engine and 75,000 on the odo. I have this strange rumbling sound that comes from the drivers side rear of my car when I ease into a right turn at around 35MPH. The sound goes away when I go straight and doesn't happen when I ease into a left hand turn. I checked to see if the shocks, damper, or exhaust is loose on both Driver and Pass side rear. Everything is tight. There are no marks on the sidewalls of the tires to indicate any chafing.

Optional Information:
1995 Ford Mustang 5.0

Already Tried:
I made sure shocks, damper, and exhaust were tight.

Hello, welcome to just answer

What you are describing and experiencing is actually coming from your left front wheel. You most likely have a bad bearing and will need to replace it and it comes as a hub assembly and runs about 75 dollars at the auto store. The reason for the noise there is as you turn right you put the weight of the front end on the left wheel and when these wheel bearings go bad you will hear a rumbling or groan sound and alot of times you may even feel it in the steering wheel.

Reply to TECH1994's Post: Is it common for drivers to think that bearing noise is coming from the back of the car when it is coming from the front? What you say makes sense to me as the front of the car is a lot heavier then the rear. What would be the symptoms of a bearing failing on the rear axle?

Do I need any speacial tools (besides a torque wrench)to replace the front hub assembly?

Thanks!

When you say "left" are you referring to drivers side? I want to make sure I install the bearing in the right place.

Is the hub assembly "lubricated for life" like the tie rod ends on most newer cars?

or do I need to pack the bearing with grease.

The Haynes manual didn't specifiy and I don't the new hub assembly yet to look at it.
