Botched Oil Change
Sent to Car Experts June 07 10:49 AM

I got an oil change yesterday. My mecanic didnt put the oil plug back in properly. Toyota Corolla with 3,600 mi. When I got home I found an oil trail up the drive way. Probably drove 8-10 miles without oil in the motor. It had CastrolGTX 5W30-N oil. My mechanic brought out a new plug and put Castrol Syntec in. Motor started and seemed fine. Could this be a problem for the motor though in the near future? The car is only 3 months old. Was the motor damaged. And why the Syntec. Will I have to allways use Syntec now. Should I have the motor Analyzed? Should I contact my car dealer. Will this void the waranty? Thanks so much for your time and effort in this . Dean...........

If you get home fine, did not hear any knocking in the car while driving, did not over heat at all, and just found a trail of oil when you get down of the car, the car will be just fine and did not damage anything at all, maybe the piston ring was wear down a little bit if you run it dry, but since you only find a trail of oil I don't think the engine ever run dry. The mechanic use Syntec oil probably he just want to give you extra for the error made, don't get me wrong Cyntec is a good oil than regular oil, but still as long as the engine don't run dry with oil they both work the same way, only Syntec penetrate more in the cylinder wall.
