check engine light

Sent to Car Experts June 06 06:04 PM

my "check engine" light has been on for a couple of months and when i accelerate, sometimes my car hesitates. twice in the last two days, my car has stalled but started again with a battery <a style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=24&k=jump%20start" onmouseover="window.status='<a style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=24&k=jump%20start" onmouseover="window.status='jump start'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">jump start</a>'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">jump start</a> even though my battery light has never come on. what could it be?

Reply to Tech501's Post: it's an 02 mazda 626. basically, my "check engine" light came on in like january, about 2 weeks after getting a full service tune-up. then my car started hesitating and jerking a little with acceleration. my car is about 2-3 months overdue for an oil change and i drive about 60-70 miles a day. i know, i know. let me hang my head in shame. stay focused! :) anyway, my car wouldn't start 2 days ago and when i tried to start the car, the engine would do like a rattling or clicking. i called a mechanic out to help me and he said it sounded like it needs a new starter. but then because of protocol, he tried jump starting the battery and it started right up. he said i might just need a new battery so i figured i'd try to hold out til friday (payday). it stalled on me again today. same thing. started up with a battery charge. what could it be?
