need help asap... thank you!

i have a 66 plymouth sport fury, and it's already been determined that i need a new carburetor, but when i try to start the car sometimes it's hard to start because of the carb so i keep trying and the first few times the engine turns over but then after awhile trying to get it started the engine stops turning all together and all i hear is a clicking sound.
