alright so here is the resolution to this situation: the mechanic said that he would charge me for another diagnostic because problem not resolved. mechanic said he could replace the fuel pump, but the engine shut off did not occur when i left the car at mechanic for a few hours so engine could cool down and they could test drive. mechanic checked fuel line and hoses and said there was no leak. told me that he did not want to do anything without good cause and told me i could take car home. his talk of the fuel pump got me thinking. two days before i brought the car to mechanic i purchased larger bottle of fuel injection cleaner than i normally buy and used entire bottle in tank. did not properley read instruction and that stated that only about a thrid of bottle was to be used. the large pot hole hit and the fuel injection cleaner overdose engine stall happening at the same time could have simply been coincidental. i called the shop and informed and he said that now that i told him he was certain that was the issue. it has now been over 30 days, and several full gas tank refills since the engine stall. it has not happened since. pls do not emulate my example and actually READ the instructions. i don't regret having paid for a diagnostic and having the spark plugs replaced because the plugs were all old, but I bought the chilton manual and realized it was simple enough to do myself and not spend 80 bucks. I hope this post helps someone
