When I start my 2000 Cadillac Escalade, I cannot get it out ...

When I start my 2000 Cadillac Escalade, I cannot get it out of park very easily, if I move the column lever back and forth quickly sometimes it works. What do you think is wrong?

Hello Customer (name blocked for privacy), if you press on the brake pedal with the engine running do you hear a destinct click from the steering column?
