my sons 1995 cadillac eldorado drivers side rear wheel wont rotate when driving - forward or reverse, but makes a horrible screeching noise

1994 Cadillac eldorado northstar

Already Tried:
put car in reverse and it made the noise, put car in drive and it made the noise - then relaized it was because the rear driivers side wheel was not rotating. not sure if it is worth us trying to take the wheel off to try to fix or just have it towed

Sounds like you either have a frozen brake, or an axel and hub problem, maybe both.

I would tow the car in, because both of these problems are not usually repairable by a layman.

For the Hub, you would need a 2 ton press, which is very dangerous equipment. Same thing with the axel.

The only other thing I can think of would be the rear end, but the wheel would be able to roll.

The most likely thing I cna think of is that there is something wrong with the brake on that wheel.

the car has been sitting for at least 6 months without being driven - my first inkling was a brake problem (i am a chick that knows a lot about cars from growing up in the 80s and being surrounded by muscle cars...)but was not home when the noise occurred and am now at work with the car at home and did not want to tell my son to start looking at that and have him get totally frustrated with it just to find out he wasted 2-3 hours of his time out in the cold and snow.
