1986 Buick Riviera T-Type 2D
6-Cyl, Fuel Injected,

Stalled while pullling out of a parking lot. Maybe 100ft (20sec) after engine start. Power steering went, engine shut off. Wants to turn over, got it close while pumping gas. Gas was a little low, but I added a gallon and determined it wasn't the gas (though i've heard on older cars the fuel pump may suck something up during low gas). Checked wires, one in particular look like it had made contact with the fan, but did not look fresh, and core was still intact. Checked spark, good, checked fuel pump, sounds like it's pumping and smelled gas. Thought it may be timing chain/belt, but checked valves to be ok. Added oil stabilizer (Lucas) yesterday, may be low on regular oil. Tranny fluid may be a little low also, didn't think that would keep it from starting. On last attempt (four/five hours after break down, and it sitting) heard pop and noticed slight smoke coming from fan area, and after removing oil cap noticed slight smoke coming from there. Now i'm lost, and i'm definitely no mechanic.

All help appreciated.

Was told when purchased from private seller that Drive-Belt Tensioner was probably in need of replacement. Makes a rattling noise when engine is running.

Once again thanks to all suggestions.
