i just changed my speeed sensor on a 98 buick century.when ...

i just changed my speeed sensor on a 98 buick century.when i drive my speedodmeter jumps and when i accelerate it does go into gear.it drives then it starts rebbing up.

Why did you change the speed sensor in the first place?Were you trying to fix something?

The first thing to check is the connection down at the sensor.I have had these where the wire looks good but is broken inside the insulation or the terminal is backed out of the connector at the sensor.Unplug the sensor and pull on each wire firmly to see if the wire stretches or pulls apart.If you don't find anything there,remove the air filter assembly and inspect the wiring harness that runs by the a/c accumulator.That is the big silver can located under the air filter housing and the harness has been known to rub it.You will have to look really closely to see if the insulation is worn through it doesn't jump out at you most of the time.

The speed sensor controls the speedometer and the shift points of the transmission so yes that's why it's jumping.Check the areas I said and we can go from there if you wish to.

CAN THAT WIRE THAT CONNECTS TO THE SPEED SENSOR GO BAD?I USED A TEST LIGHT.ON THE WIRES AND IT DID NOT LIGHT.I DID WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT CHECKING WIRES.AND WIRING HARNESS
