what tools do I need to diagnose and repair a blown engine head gasket

I have what I believe to be a blown head gasket on an 87' buick century. I need to know exactly what tools do I need to diagnose and repair the problem. My plan is to repair the problem myself with the help of some friends of mine and they're just going to be there just to give me instruction on what to do
