i have a 97 buick lesabre and it is having a idle problem.

i have a 97 buick lesabre and it is having a idle problem. When it is at idle rather in neutral or drive it idle erratically up and down a few rpm like in the hundred range, it also sounds like it is sputtering but not very loudly. It drives fine once the gas is pushed and accelerates just like normal. Also the check engine light came on. Do you have any advice.
