Yestedary I had a transmiission flush done to my 1999 ford vehicle 3.8 V-6 with Automatic. The dipstick is a light pink in color--I was told Mercon V was used---I later purchased a quart of Mercon V and it is red almost burgandy in color--I put the dipstick tip in the quart and the stick shows more color---Why is this?

Optional Information:
1999 Windstar SE 3.8 V-6

Already Tried:
Talked to proprietor by phone this morning & he stands firm that Mercon V was the replacement fluid. To me it appears like a different comparable of a dilluted Mrcon V (It seems thinner than the freshly purchased quart and my mpg is less according to the onboard computer.

Hello Customer (name blocked for privacy) and welcome to JA,

Where was the service performed? Did they use NEW or Recycled Trans fluid? Most of the chains (AAMCO & Cottman) use a machine which cycles the fluid through a machine while the vehicle is running-- most use recycled ATF ( Auto Trans Fluid) in those machines-- There should be no difference though as they must follow strict guidelines for the fluid they use. Good Luck

In answer to your questions--service was performed at a sole proprietership car repair shop by the name of Krause Automotive in West Bend, WI. (his business card also indicates:"Bumper to Bumper Repair").
I was led to believe that Mercon V would be used and he said in phone conversation this morning he "watched the mechanic put Mercon V in the machine".
I don't understand why the coloe is so light compared to straight out of the bottle.
