Question

Hard starting Blazer

Sent to Car Experts November 09, 2004 4:16 a.m.

My 96 Chevy Blazer 4.3L is very hard starting. I have changed the fuel filter and it still is hard to start. Some people say to change the fuel pump. It has already caused a dead battery, from all the excessive cranking of the engine. The alternator has been tested and is fine. I need to know what else it might be before I pay $1,000 to have a mechanic just look at it. Can you give me any ideas?

When you first try and start it , cycle the key on and off several times to pressurize the system. If it makes no difference you will have to have the pressure tested to see if the pump has just gotten weak and is not bringing the system pressure up fast enough or the pressure regulator may not be closing completely.
