spark plugs

I had a tune up (spark plug/wires) replaced 6 months ago, while on a trip to Georgia this weekend one of the spark plugs just blow right out of the head, we managed to get the plug to stay in long enough to make it where we were going (driving 40 MPH and lots of prayer), anyway a mechanic was at the rest area where it first happened and told us it was caused by whom ever replaced the spark plugs last had cross threaded the plug, can this be the cause after 6 months of driving the car?
