My son played mechanic for the first time replacing
Sent to Car Experts March 13 11:10 PM

My son played mechanic for the first time replacing the battery post terminals on his 1990 Subaru Legacy. He failed to tag the wires and their association to the positive or negative post configuration. I believe he has the wires turned around but he swears they are correct. So before he fries all of the diodes ......
There are 5 wires that were involved in the original post assembly. 1. Heavy gage (Black with yellow stripe) wire which attachs to the power lead on the starter, I assume would be off the positive post; 2. a heavy gauge wire (black with yellow stripe) going to the casing of the starter, I assume it is a ground and would go to the negative post; 3. medium gauge wire going to the primary fuse block, I assume would come off the positive post; 4. a small gage wire ending at a metal screw on the inside of the sheet metal quarter panel behing the head light assembly, assume it goes to the negative; 5. a small gauge wire going down to the engine frame, assume it goes to the negative post. Can you confirm that my suggested placement of the wires is correct or how the wires should be mapped out so I can be sure he does not fry any circuts?Optional Information: 1990 Subaru legacy

You are correct sir! if connected to the body or engine it is a ground. The #5 is ground also( you did not state). It sounds like you have all the wires in the correct places. The way you described. Turn the key on and connect them one at a time if sparks fly you are backward. Be careful batteries can and will exploded. Hope this helps. Please click accept for me. Thanks
