I had oil put in the car but the mechanic did not replace ...

I had oil put in the car but the mechanic did not replace the cap under the hood. Oil splashed all over the engine. I found out after it had leaked all down the car. after putting in more oil and cleaning up the car shut off. The temp shot up and then the engine just shut off. there is fuel in the tank but it the lever says that it is empty even after I added more fuel. what do you suggest?
