I own a 2001 Acura CL 3.2 It is due for its 105K maintainance checkup which includes such things as a tune up and changing the water pump etc. all for the price of $1,500.00 Are these types of evaluation necessary or are they in part a sevice scam? In other words should I simple identify the checks I want (ex change coolant, plugs, oil change rotate tires) or in the long run is it better to spend that type of money for the recommended assessment? Thanks Fred

Optional Information: 2001 Acura CL 3.2

Thats a good question. It's always a good idea to follow manufacturers recommended maintenance.Especially where timing belts and oil changes are concerned.Things like water pumps do give you fair warning before they fail on you.Spark plug wires, the same thing.I would just check the items you wish to have serviced and repair any failures like the water pump as they occur. The thing to take into consideration is that if the manufacturer recommends a service at a specific mileage it's probably designed to last that amount of time.It all boils down to economics. If you can afford it.ABSOLUTELY follow recommendations. If not.Wait till it's broken before you fix it aside from fluids and tune up items. Also remember these are only RECOMMENDED services.

Reply to Michael's Post: So you feel that rather than being a sevice scam that the 105K mile maintainance cost of $1,500 for my 2001 Acura CL 3.2 is based on sound objective evidence that if my bank account can absorb it the long term investment would be fair?
