1991 Honda Accord EX antennae does not retract
Sent to Car Experts August 27 03:53 PM

My 1991 Honda Accord EX radio antennae will not retract when the car is turned off. The radio works fine. I used WD-40 to lube the antennae but it still remains in a fully extended postion. Suggestions? I would hate to spend a fortune at the dealer to repair or replace. Thanks!

Check with the dealer. You can usually but a mast only that comes with the ribbon feed that winds into the motor for under $25. That's what's broken on yours. The tricky part can be getting the old pieces out but repeatedly turning the radio on and off should get it to wind out.

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: Thanks for the quick response. If I go to the Honda parts department and purchase the mast/ribbon feed, do they have directions or a schematic on how to install this? Often when I go to the parts department the guys there just come out to the car and show me how to install the part or even do it right there on the spot. If I have to do this, where do I get the directions so I don't screw this up myself?

Yes, most of them will come with instructions. If the parts guy will help you that would be even better. The motor itself will draw the plastic strip in. You may have to repeat it a few times to get it in all the way.
